If you’ve ever considered a career in real estate, getting started may be easier than you think.

Yes, I’m interested in finding out more:

    • “On September 13, 1999 I started as a new agent with the F.C. Tucker Company at the Meridian North office. I had absolutely no previous experience in real estate and a very limited knowledge of properties in Indianapolis. I chose the Meridian North office because it was the number one selling office in the Tucker company, as well as, in the Indianapolis area. I wanted to run with the best! Well, twenty years later the Meridian North office is still the best and the people are what make it great!. From the time I was a new agent everyone was willing to answer my questions and take the time that a very nervous, very green agent needed to help her succeed! The people at the Meridian North office are family and are always there to help you succeed, not to mention they are a lot of fun!!!.”

    • “F.C. Tucker Meridian North office is extra special because of its people. Fellow agents, management, and staff alike go above and beyond to make one feel welcome from the beginning, and are by your side throughout the process of learning.  They remain constant through the good times and the more challenging ones. Everyone is willing to answer questions, and all want to help you grow and succeed.  There is an overarching mentality of abundance, so while this field can be competitive, colleagues act and know there is enough business for all, extending that ability to help and guide each other.  Tucker often promotes itself as being a family.  This office definitely brings that to reality!  Birthdays, anniversaries, personal causes, special events, are all announced and celebrated. Losses are also recognized. Colleagues support colleagues. Each person really cares about the other; it is genuine and sincere. I am proud to be a part of the Tucker Meridian North office, and call this group of wonderful people part of my extended family!”

    • “Why do I love our office? Number one is that we are the highest producing office in the state of Indiana which fosters a great sense of motivation for all of us agents. Number two is the management team is always there for you.  When a question needs to be answered or when a situation arises there is someone there for you to back you up. Number three, I have been in the business for 30 years and I have seen a lot of managers and changes in management, this pair of managers are by far the best in the business.”

    What is my first step?

Your first step is to become licensed. Requirements vary from state to state. In Indiana, for example, you must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent, and complete 90 hours of classroom or online instruction to prepare to take the state-issued exam. Many pre-licensing classes are available to help you prepare. The exam is approximately 150 questions and takes about 3 hours to complete. You must receive a 75% or higher to pass.

    What makes a good agent?

It takes more than liking houses and enjoying people to be successful in real estate, but that’s a good start! Successful and happy agents have great organizational and communication skills, possess confidence and emotional and physical stamina and have a service-minded attitude. Real estate is about helping people realize their dreams.

    How much can I earn?

One of the most compelling reasons to pursue a real estate career is that you have the potential for unlimited income. Every brokerage has its own compensation plan; one basic way to think about it is starting on a 50/50 split until you reach a certain income level at which time the split arrangement shifts so the agents portion increases. This is definitely an area to cover when interviewing brokerages.

    How important is training?

Proper training when starting a real estate career is absolutely critical. Brokerages definitely differentiate themselves by the type of training they offer so make sure to ask questions about potential brokerage’s approach and style of training during your interviews. At a minimum good training programs cover specific tactics on how to work with buyers and sellers, concrete approaches for business development and cutting-edge technology tools. Initial training when you are a brand new agent and ongoing training support are both important.
